Canadian Tom Thomson has always been one of my favorite artists. This one, “The Jack Pine 1916-17”, is one of my favorite pieces of art.
When I went looking for a copy of the print I stumbled across an incredibly interesting site. Thomson drowned while on a solo trip on Canoe Lake in Algonquin Park on July 8, 1917, at the peak of his creativity. This site [<< click thru] explores the legends and rumors around in his death. It is interactive, and features some of his best paintings.
Here’s a second link [<<click thru] to a more extensive gallery of images.
Well worth a few minutes of time.
